This collection contains the personal and business papers of Ambrose Clarke, Baltimore merchant, and letterbook of his son-in-law, Frederick w. Brune of vonKapff and Brune.

The bulk of the material is correspondence of the Buckler family, principally letters to William Buckler (1804-70) from his brother, Dr. Thomas Hepburn Buckler (1812-1901), and two sisters Elizabeth Buckler (1793-1849) and Mattie Augusta Lindsay Buckler (1806-86), while William Buckler was abroad on trips to China.

This collection contains the records of the Baltimore-based shipping company, Merchants and Miners Transportation Company. Materials include correspondence, financial records, journals, ship inventories, legal records, minute books, and war shipment records.

The Terminal Shipping Company was one of Baltimore's largest steamship agencies and stevedoring firms. The account books show its operation expenses for stevedoring and shipping during the early-to-mid twentieth century and include profits, losses, major accounts, and investments.

The four account books of the prominent Baltimore businessman William Patterson (1752-1835) relate primarily to his merchant and shipping activities. Patterson's Will is also included in this collection.
